Big Canoe and Kayak Expedition Packing List (Youth, Young Alumni, and Grown Up)
The following quantities are recommended for our Big Canoe and Kayak expeditions. All items should be clearly marked. Please do not bring expensive items to camp!
Please note: we have some great gear to share! If campers need to borrow sleeping bags, warm jackets, or other items from the packing list, just to let us know.
Clothing Items
To be packed in a small duffle bag, backpack or dry bag (suitcases do not fit in the boat.):
3-4 pairs of shorts (nylon dries faster than cotton)
3-4 T-shirts (nylon dries faster than cotton, but nice to have a cotton shirt or two)
1-2 Tank tops
1-2 pairs athletic pants (fleece pants or quick dry are best)
1-2 Dry fit or fleece long sleeves (long sleeve cotton is nice for camp)
1 jacket or warm vest (fleece, down, etc.)
Underwear, undergarments, etc.
5 pairs socks (one wool or synthetic – and cotton)
1-2 swimsuits
1 pair of sturdy sandals (Crocs, Keens, Tevas, Chacos, etc. – need heel strap)
1 pair of flip flops
1 pair athletic shoes for camp (old shoes are better!)
Rain jacket and rain pants
Long underwear – top and bottom fleece top (optional based on weather)
1 pair of jeans (optional- you will not bring jeans for trip, but you can leave them at Gallagher to wear while in camp/traveling home)
PERSONAL CARE ITEMS
Travel-size toothpaste and toothbrush
Travel-size lotion, soap, shampoo, conditioner, etc.
Medications (in original prescription bottle or package).
CAMPING GEAR
Sleeping bag
Small sleeping pad (optional)
2 large garbage bags
2-3 extra gallon zip locks
Flashlight (headlamp)
1 visor/baseball hat to keep sun off
Stocking hat or beanie
Sunscreen (30 or higher preferred)
Insect repellent
Chapstick (w/ SPF)
Sunglasses (with straps optional)
Towel -Small or medium-sized (pack towels are awesome)
Plastic cup, spoon/spork, and bowl (Tupperware with lid works well!)
2 quart-size (32 oz) water bottles
OPTIONAL ITEMS
Bandanas
Book
Camera
Dry bag (we will teach you how to pack your duffel like a dry bag if you don’t have one).
Camping pillow (optional) (we cannot pack regular-sized pillows on the boat)
